Company directors should take responsibility for green initiatives and not rely on employees, revealed a survey published by design consultancy BDG Work Futures yesterday.
Some 70% of the 1,600 office workers interviewed by research company BMRB felt that green initiatives were not their responsibility. Nearly half of office workers find recycling, switching off lights and switching appliances off from standby mode easier to do at home and nearly one in three respondents said recycling was the most important issue in terms of cutting an office's environmental impact. BDG Work Futures joint managing director Gill Parker said: 'As consumers we may make ethical and socially responsible choices, but as employees we tend to relinquish this power to the property and procurement experts. This can be very frustrating and demoralising for the staff and potentially damaging to a corporate reputation.'
