£4.5M granted towards deep-sea electricity socket

The Department of Trade & Industry has granted £4.5M towards a deep-sea electricity socket, 16km off the Cornish coast. If it gets consent, the £20M Wave Hub scheme will act as a giant extension cable, connecting up to four wave energy devices to the National Grid. Consultation on the consent application closes on 1 September with a decision expected by the end of 2006.
