£31M funding for new nuclear technology

Business secretary Vince Cable has this week announced £31M of funding awards for new nuclear technology.

The funding has been provided by public bodies including the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority to support 35 UK projects develop new technologies for the construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear power plants.

More than 60 organisations such as Laing O’Rourke and EdF will work with SME’s and universities to develop the technology.

“There are huge global opportunities that the UK is well placed to take advantage of in the nuclear industry,” said Cable. “Our strong research base will help develop exciting new technologies that can be commercialised here and then exported across the globe.”
