£2M Conwy Tunnel upgrade starting

The first phase of the £2M Conwy Tunnel in North Wales upgrade programme will start this week to improve lighting in the tunnel.

Work will last four weeks and includes the installation of 3km of support steelworks, 4km of cabling and 2,500 LED lamps.

The new LED lighting system will minimise power consumption and need for maintenance.

The Conwy Tunnel carries the A55 road underneath the River Conwy and was opened in 1991.
